Arts 101
ARTS 101
Arts 101 is an independent program created by the Contemporary Art Gallery working in conjunction with Watari Research Association to develop and guide active interactions between artists and artistic practices and at-risk youth between the ages of 16 to 21 years. The program is a one-to-one mentorship program placing volunteer artists with at-risk youth in a hands-on learning environment. Weekly workshop sessions in a small studio/ classroom setting will culminate in a public display of the works produced. The length of each program will be six months in duration with two programs per year running on a flexible schedule. (perhaps we can insert a photo of art work here)
Our role at Arts 101 is to create a safe, engaging and constructive environment for at-risk youth. Our program addresses these youth's needs for adult support and provides role models who show professionalism, commitment and creative vision. Through the thrill of creative and artistic expression and community recognition for exhibitions, at-risk youth learn to build critical self-discipline, life skills, concrete job skills and how to use the arts to communicate difficult thoughts and emotions.
